I agree to some extent with others, But all pre 1960 tractors were quite noisy compared to the tractor of today. You did however notice a pronunced noise in axel area. A good idea may be take pan off bottom of final drive, and have a look at gear oil and gears. Also should jack tractor and check for looseness in bearings. Those final drives can get loose enough to break gears inside as well as housing its self.
