I would say to try hydraulic oil first, most of engine oil has detergents in the mix and this is another name for soap, in the days of the 30s when this was engineered engine oil was all that was commonly available, and detergents were unheard of then, Hytran has anti-foam additive, however it is a 10w oil base so high heat is a problem.
