50's era Firestone tires had "gum dipped" written on the sidewall. We've still got a few tractor and implement tires so marked, also my old Jacobsen lawn mower. The tires seem no better - nor worse - than competitor's tires of that era. It's kinda like the "Intel Inside" stickers you see on many present PC's...
