Farmall M Engine Casting Numbers

My Farmall M is missing the Serial Number plate. Does anyone have a cross reference between engine casting numbers and serial numbers? Or perhaps, transmission casting numbers and serial numbers? Is there some other way to determine in which year my tractor was built? I do know that there are two different oil filters, one for early s/n tractors and one for later s/n tractors. I could always buy both filters and see which one fits, but that's still rather vague. Feel free to e-mail: amazon-wolf@pcisys.net
