When I arrived home this evening there were 18 e-mail forum notification in my e-mail. Turns out they were all about one posting, that being yours. At first I thought I must have annoyed a lot of people. As I went through them I found they all addressed this subject new 806 project. The board has only one new entry since morning. I certainly hope I didn't annoy you that much. First let me say I have never owned an 806. I have however owned a few of its relatives 560D, 656D,1066. Also a 329 cid turbo John Deere and a 354cid Perkins. Non of these engines were ever rebuilt before 8000 hours. When I say use ether I dont say drown them with it. I agree very much, plug them if your near electricty. Many times I was not. I had quick couplers on the heater hoses of my pickup and matching couplers on my diesels. That system works very well, 10 to 15 min. and its just like a summer start. Dont expect to stay warm in the pickup while you do this. Like you I dont like ether. My rule was and still is, if its below freezing and your going to use it, plug it in or use the pickup. The diesel my not need that to start, but it will extend engine life. Getting back to your 806 I did notice you said," -25F ". That is the warm end of the range I suggested, being -25F to -35F. You futher said the 806 had a seasons use since rebuild. Just wore enough to let it crank easy, but still at the top of its starting ability. It would be nice if we could all keep our tractors at that state of repair forever. We then wouldn't have to engage crankie old engine rebuilders.

Today's Featured Article - The 8N and the Fox - by Zane Sherman. Dec. 13 1998, Renfroe, Alabama. Last niht I dreamed about the day that I plowed the field of about 10 acres over on what Jimmy and Dandy called the Ledbetter field. I was driving the 1948 8N Ford tractor that Jimmy bought in 48 new This was prebably in about 1951 and maybe even befor the house was built. This would have made me to be about16 years old and I drove the tractor for nothing and would have paid to drive it if I had had any money which I didn't, but neit ... [Read Article]
