The D17 gas engine was used when the D17 tractor was introduced and the same diesel engine as the WD45D and D17D engines were used in the DD models. In 1964 the tubular frame was superseded by a box frame. In 1971 the D and DD graders were superseded by the Allis Chalmers M65 which then became the FA65 when the Fiat-Allis joint venture was formed.
