Charles in your post about the carb you mention a bad oil leak at the main seal. I suspect the mains or crank are badly worn letting the crank bounce up and down. Thus trying to go under the starter and breaking the nose off. With the engine out check the play on the crank by putting a pry bar under the flywheel (bottom) and prying up Shouldnt move more than .002/.005. Hope this helps. Ed
