Was that the JD that looked like a Case 1530 or Owatonna 1700? Had similar components, using a VH4D 30 hp Wisconsin, shaft to gearbox (made by Hub City in SD) with a variable sheave belt drive and the hydraulic pump on another output shaft? Circa 1970. It's earlier technology, ok for just putzing around with, but for everyday use- the best machine I've bought in 30 years of full-time farming is the Gehl 4625SX. Hydrostatic drive, size-wise fits our operation, gets in low buildings and still big enough to move 1300 # round bales and dig field rock that you couldn't fit under the kitchen table. Hand controls vs foot lets me keep both feet on the floor for stability in rough ground. SX has the remote for foot-operated grapple, etc. Great gopher machine if you have no ATV. The 1530 had more down than up-time, the Gehl I use 5-6 times a day. I have a just-overhauled VH4D, would sell for $650, but sold the 1530 several years ago. Gearbox costs more than what the machine was worth, dealers price on gears was $465, found some from a 1700, but the Gehl was worth the buy. Just checked my old salvage yard notes- the matching JD was Model 170. But you're still in the same era with the 125.
