When I start my TD 6, I get a slow drip at the bottom of the engine, toward the rear. When the engine is good and warm, oil starts pouring from engine. Like a quart in 3 minutes; it is a steady stream of oil. I thought it must be a rear main seal; however, when it is cold it leaks little. Could there be a problem with the oil pan at the rear of the engine?; or is it the rear main seal. Is the rear main seal made of a rope, and what do you have to do to get the old seal out and the new seal in? I appreciate input.
Other: On white/gray smoke from number 4 cylinder; after operating for a short time, the smoke ceased, and the engine operated much better. I loosened the injector line and the engine dropped in RPM, like the other three cylinders -good news.
After shutting the engine off, and later starting the engine on gas, and switching to diesel once again smoke came out the exhaust and the engine operated as before. What would be the reason for this? I think for whatever reason, the injector was working and then plugged again -perhaps the starting, and then switching to diesel -don't know. do think it is the injector. The valves are okay. Anyone have input on this?
what is the best way to clean the injector, or should I use much Diesel Kleen?
