It probably needs glow plugs to start even when it's warm outside. That's normal for the older indirect injection Kubota's. Once warm it should start right up if you shut it off for an hour or so. Never under any circumstances use ether on a Kubota! Was told by a mechanic that Kubota has very tight tolerances on their engines and he's seen a few ruined by ether. Bucket pins and bushings may need replacing as they do wear out. Hydro's and hyd pump are belt driven so you may want to check that. Generally a good machine. Drive it and get it warmed up. Then push against something solid and it should spin both sides. Listen for noise from the chain cases or anything unusual. Also drive full speed for 100 yd's and see if it goes in a straight line. A slight pull to one side is OK but a lot may indicate a problem with one of the hydrostats or the linkage needs adjusting. If at all possible, do some oil samples for the hyd. and engine oil.
