When do I plant milo and forage sorghum? I live in NW MO. Should I drill it or plant it? I have a 2 row planter and a mccormick m drill. Mainly planting it for the birds. New to crop farming and putting out some food plots to see if I can grow anything.

I"m in SE KS, and also use a 2 row planter. This week I"m planting sorghum for my dove field.

Here in central Kansas (north of Wichita) we plant early milo in late April and late milo sometime in June, often double cropping after the wheat is harvested. As was mentioned, milo is a warm weather crop so I wouldn't try to get in in too early. Around here nobody tries to plant between these two timeframes since the crop will be trying to head out in the hottest, driest part of the summer which is not good.

Milo likes warm soil to germinate say about 68 degrees. Same for forage sorghum.
Don't plant it too deep about 2" at the most.

Good Luck Gary
