The land is in central wisconsin, I'll look into the local college. University of Madison is pretty close.

Check Farmerboybill- he is doing some organic crops just north of Madison. How are the fences, if any? Rolling land or flat bottom ground? Are you north of glacier moraine or south? Hay ground may be good start for moderate cost equipment, other crops may cost a bit more in equipment. You now have 4 months to study the farm business before snow melts and fields might be workable. Have fun.

You could try several college and or extension service websites. Univ of Massachesetts Amherst has a nice one. Of course it depends on your location. Also a good source is, naturally, a local farmer. You could try volunteering to help out on weekends and pick up some knowledge along the way. As long as your not a total city-slicker he would probably appreciate an extra hand.
