Hmmmmm,

Just got back from havin' this old Ford diesel pickup that I just bought serviced. Put in a new air cleaner element and had 'em change the fuel filter while they were at it.

Let's see now, it always costs me between $60 and $80 to fill with diesel fuel and they just dinged me $160 for a service job.

I'm pretty darned sure now that I retired the wrong pickup. :>(

Yep, they are expensive to service but they can pull a load. I noticed that I can still get 12 mph towing 7,000 lb with D but with G I get 6-8. If you tow you need D but if all you carry is a six pack and a can of bait your wastin money with diesel.

Don't know what model Ford diesel you have, but if it's a powerstroke things add up pretty quick. 4 gals. oil $30, oil filter $18, fuel filter $25, air filter $35 and shop labor at least $50/hr.

Diesel here is about $2.55 and gas is about $2.20. My '99 powerstroke is getting 14+ mpg, I don't think a carburated 350 will do good enough to make up $.35 a gallon difference. WB.

I know what ya mean there bud. Bought my 96 F250 w/ the 7.3 turbo a couple months back. I love the truck, but I do pay the price at the pump. I"m thinking of taking mine in, get it looked over before the white stuff starts flying. By the way, which diesel was in the old Chevy, 6.2L? From what I heard, they were built more for mileage than raw power.

Allan, that's the reason my next one's gonna be a gas burner. Years ago diesel was the leftovers from making gasoline, now it's the icing!! Tx Jim

Hi Jim,

Yepper. I used to have a diesel in that old brown Chevy pickup. Yanked it out 'cause it just didn't have the gonads.

Now, I have one with the smoke and can't afford to drive it. Can't win. :>)

Allan,

Make BioDiesel. I am running my old Ford truck for about $0.75 at the most. Need an old water heater and some basic plumbing needs. ErrinH on these boards is working to make Bio to run his furnace on this winter. It runs in my truck just fine. I have not been to a diesel pump for over a month. It does work
