It took about 3 hours, but got my food plots planted Sunday. 150# oats, 50# Crimson clover, 50# Vetch, 800# 13-13-13----
I also ordered a good rain at the feed store---they couldn"t tell me when that would be in though! LOL
I did enjoy the day though, putting around on my JD "A", even let my grand daughter "drive" it (engine just idling, in 1st gear) she had a grin as big as Texas :)...

I have an old JD A that we use to plant food plots also . Most of the ground had been idle for years. I have a newfound respect for the old timers that made a living with those old tractors .After plowing with 2 bottom plow and then discing . Every bone is aching and severe case of "tractor butt " lol Our plots turned out excellant this year . Corn , some beans , Sorghum , turnips, pumkins, and clover . Getting close to deer season here in Iowa . Looking forward to seeing the results !

I"m dealing with "sugar sand" for soil, so it doesn"t require plowing. I just run my disc over it 2-3 times before I plant. The biggest problem with my soil, is that it really has no nutrients, other than what I put on it.
Still, I enjoy running the old tractor, whether it"s putting in food plots, or dragging the mower behind it, there"s something soothing in hearing those two cylinders---takes me back to a simpler time.
Good luck with your food plots! Mine turned out pretty good last year also. We sure need a good rain down here in Central Texas!
