I am considering purchasing a Ford 9N and I hear talk of down pushing 3 point hitch. Is this possible with the 9N and is it necessary. The tractor will be primarly used for mowing and bush hogging.

Wish I had my 9N back. Did virtually everything on my 10 acres with it before getting transferred to the big city. HOWEVER, before you even think of mowing with it get an overrider gear to connect on the PTO shaft. I found out that the gully I probably could not mow without rolling the tractor over could be mowed, and my son took out 4 fence posts and 4 strands of barbed wire before I bought one. The blades act like a big flywheel and will push the tractor forward even with the clutch in and standing on the brakes. It was the first tractor I ever drove and I was not very bright in my younger days.

Once rigged properly, I mowed, plowed, dug post holes, graded, pulled posts, you name it with that 9N.

Be careful. Tractors can be very dangerous but also very satisfying. I use mine almost daily now as a way to relax and enjoy life in the slow lane now that I am back in the country.

I use a 9N for bush hogging. Works fine, I use a 4ft bush hog and knock down stuff taller than the tractor but need to be in 1st gear for that. Regular mowing all day long in 2nd and do not know the mower is back there. No down pressure on the 9N 3pt but you don't really need it for mowing. Only problem is postion control--with the 9N hard to hold lift in one certian place. This is an easy fix with limit chains or go over to the `N board and ask about a "ZANE thing." I do not have one, but most of the guy on that board swear by them.

Installed a ZANE THANG on a friends 9N works like a charm, the bush hog is held at the preset height eliminating constant adjustment.
