First off, I need to state I have absolutely NO agricultural background, so, please pardon my ignorance in advance. That said, for the past 4 years or so, I"ve planted a small (approx. 2 acre) food plot of oats and crimson clover for deer to help with taxes, and, of course, feed the deer. Everything looked pretty good except for this year, when it all looked kind of poor. The deer hit the oats real hard, but, by poor, I mean wilted looking, although we"ve had plenty of rain. I"ve always used 13-13-13 when I planted, and that always resulted in good looking oats, and clover, and, by this time of year, were generally recovering. My soil (I"m being generous with the description) is sugar sand for 4", then turns to red clay. I"m wondering if I need to move the food plot, and pick on another area, or if the poor looking oats and clover are the result of planting the same thing in the same area. Any ideas or opinions are welcome!
