I'm using my equipment to grow food plots in CRP ground. Rookie yet but did pretty well with beans last year. Itching for the ground to dry a little this year. Anyone else doing this here & what have you had most success with for turkey & deer?

I live in middle TN and last year I planted about 1/2 acre of soybeans and 1/2 acre of corn. The deer literally mowed them down, I learned to plant larger plots this year. I also tried Imperial Whitetail clover with little success. I have had better success with red, white and ladino clovers with oats and wheat from Co-op.

Good Huntin'.

I plant food plots for deer, or whatever else happens to come along, as part of my ag. tax exemption here in Central Texas. I have 65 acres, and, in order to get the tax break, I have to provide 2% of land for this. I planted oats/clover last September. The deer love it,, and the tax man doesn't get much money from me....

Brian ,

I planted about 4 acres up in the U.P. of Michigan with clover 2 years ago. Used a mix of Red, Ladino, White Dutch and Timothy. Is coming in a little thinner this year. Also, looks like I have some competition with some grass and weeds; I guess I'll have to deal with them. Put it all in with direction and money from the State Conservation Dept. Have not seen any turkeys using it but of course the deer LOVE it until the frost knocks it down in the fall. Wish it would stay green longer into the hunting season.

Pete, Mix some Rape in with your clover next time & with the first frost the deer will move from the clover to the rape keeping them in the same field. Check out www.michigan-sportsman.com under the Habitat forum.

Thanks for the info and the link...lots of good info there. Looks like I need to spray to take care of the grasses and then look into making some changes in my choice of plants. I'll keep my eye on that other site. Thanks again!
