Hi, I bought my 1942 2N Ford last summer. I moved onto my 17 acre place the year before...

The 2nd day I had it home, it was hitched to the neighbours old snowmobile trailer, giving the 15 or 20 5 to 8 year old kids at my daughter and nieces birthday party hay rides... The look on the city kids faces was well worth the price of the tractor.

I used my tractor for mowing my grass, and the weeds in the pasture using a 48 inch 3pt hitch finish mower.

I have a 3 Pt hitch 5 ft wide field cultivator that keeps the weeds down in a patch of dirt on the property that used to be a riding arena, may turn it into a patch of oats or something this year.

I also make up a simple harrow drawbar using a pressure treated 4 by 4 post and can harrow the gravel on my driveway to take out some of the ruts.

I have a 3 pt hitch rear blade that was used for blading the driveway, filling in gopher holes in the back field before we converted it into a 3 acre dog exercise field...

I've used the tractor several times a week this winter to plow snow in my yard and driveway, and two of my neighbours drives...

Some year I'm gonna have to get another tractor to work with so that I can give this one a well deserved 65th birthday present and fix her up a bit. The prior owner had overhauled the engine, and painted her, but the brakes and hydraulic could use a refurb, and there are some minor oil leaks around the rear 3 pt mounts that keep the cardboard on the garage floor kinda spotty.

For now, I love how useful this 61 year old classic is around the acreage.

Wonder how many of them modern diesel toys would start up and plow snow when it's -35 F.

Lyle,

Are you runing 6V or 12V??

The N should start on 6V even at -35 F. But that IS cold!! Coldest I remember trying to start an engine was -28 F winter of '62-63. It was an old '50 Plymouth flat head 6. She groaned and growled and would wheeze now and then but I chickened out and quit. I was afraid of running the battery down and not having a good way to recharge it. Came back from classes (taught drafting one year at Iowa State Univ.) at lunch and got it started. It was still in the -20 range. I started it the morning before and the next when it was again in the -20 range. That was 6 cylinders on 6V!

Regards,
Larry

Hey Larry...

My N is original 6 V pos ground. I've had the starter rebuilt, and replaced the main cables and battery. Last summer I changed the plugs, and put a rebuild kit in the carb.

It starts great even when it's cold enough that it should know better :D :)
