Bought a '44 JD B last year. Live on a 1/2 acre spread in the 'burbs (I'm a farmer wanna-be). So far the only real activity (besides driving around my neighborhood) has been to give hay rides for the local school kids around Halloween. My fondest memories growing up was going to my uncles farm and riding the hay wagon and playing in the hay. Feels good to give these city kids a taste of hay and the sound of an old tractor.

We go on hay rides about everytime we get together. We cruise around town so my brothers and sister can see how the town is changing. And I do about 30 acres of hay. Sucker them in on picking it up to.

Same here. Got a '45 JD B electric start with lights, have marker lights and yellow blinky lights (from construction barricades) on the wagon. The wagon seats 25, 3 bucks a head for a 45 min to 1 hr ride, hate callin it work cause its too much fun, lol. Insurance is covered under the mowing business, most people aren't used to seeing "Hayrides" on a business card ;)

KEG: I'm in the same position as you, tractor owner in the burbs. Someone suggested hay rides to me and while talking about it, someone else said that if a kid, or anyone, fell off the tractor and got hurt they might sue me. I guess you need insurance, which no one will provide to me, so no hay rides by me, sorry to say.

Randy & KEG - I've got a little more land, 8 acres, but I also do an annual Halloween hay ride. My daughters, 6 & 9, and their many friends love it. On the liability issue, check your homeowners insurance policy. It may cover you. If not, you can ask the parents to sign a release of liability. Unfortunate that we live in a time when you have to think in these terms.
