Grapes! all types, pick your own for table, juice or wine. Check out the following site.

A lot of work but once the vines are in, it is just maintenance.

Look for very cold hardy types where you live.

cheers

I would look for a crop that I could retail with, Pick your own or farmers markets is where your going to find the bucks. Cut flowers is another BIG $/ac market. I think with regular comdities your gonna have a tought time making it worth your time.

Have to add this:

Best cash crops are not exactly legal - "wacky tobacky" (or "weed") is highly (pun intended) profitable but a single crop can cost you 5 to 10 years in the pokey ;>}

If you have a ready market okra can make you a killing - but it is labor intensive and must be cut over every other day. I know a guy who let a black family that had 4 or 5 kids take care of 12? acres of okra on his old family farm one summer. He planted and farmed it, they picked half of it each day, he took it to market and split profits with them. I forget the number but it was over $10K gross for the summer (it was a real good summer for okra). Other vegetables are just as timing-sensitive when it comes to harvesting and you must have a ready market to sell into.

income is labor intensive -

if you want income you have to work

If you can irrigate have you considered growing vegetables. When I go to the grocery store and see sweet potatoes for .99$ per pound I think I would like to try some.

Sorry 333 I don't know. As you can see by the above post that I am playing government consultant; that is giving advice without having any clue.

If you have good fencing try sheep? Get 10 weaned wethers for summer graze and sell in fall for locker/freezer. If you have a barn or other shelter and want to try raising year round try around Clarion for a Katahdin sheep breeder for a pair of bred ewes. Other than livestock perhaps improve pasture to hayfield use if you have market? Are you close enough to town to rent garden plots? Market garden, other livestock would require more time and effort than you apparently have available. RN.
