Hey Tractor People,
I"m on the verge of buying my first tractor and need some input on what size I need. We own some mountain property in Tennessee and I will be building a cabin there soon, and need to do some work before I get started with that project. I have been researching tractors and have a budget for the tractor of about $3,000 to $4,500, I will add implements later. Most importantly, I need to pull 3 to 5 inch diameter stumps (I leave a 3 foot high pole to wrap a chain around) out of the ground for clearing, and some light ditch grading, fence post hole augering, and a small 3 to 6 inch PTO driven chipper. Can I get away with something like a 25hp Kubota L2350 or should I go bigger?? I think I need a utility style tractor, any recommendations???
Thank you!

Get one with a front end loader. Even if you have to pay a bit more! I got mine with out a loader thinking I would get one soon. Shesss prices f a front end loader is high. ... plus getting someone to put it on and make changes for it to fit. Would have saved money if I had gotten a loader and everyone needs a loader at times.

Yor budget pretty much limits you to SCUT and 80's model cut's.. or older 2wd models.

Ideally for your task, a 25-35 hp tractor with 4wd, PS, and a laoder would be good. You may have to knock that down to 2wd though.

A ford 861 would fit tht bill.. so would a ford 2000/3000.. etc.

I have a L2050, and that tractor may pull stumps that size depending on the type of tree, and soil. Be cautious, and don"t be surprised if you have to dig around some also. You will definitly need to widen the wheels. If you follow the other posts advice with the larger tractors you may be happier. If you have enough room to operate a larger utility type tractor I would go that route.

You say Tennessee mountain property. Pretty steep in places I'm assuming? Is that Kubota very wide? Stability is going to be an issue. In your price range it might be tough to get enough tractor. I'd for sure get whatever you have a dealer close by for. 4000-5000 Ford, similar sized Massey, something along that line.

For that budget, MF 135 diesel, IH 454 or similar.
