I was wondering about the bloat risk with the red clover since I plan on putting a bunch in this summer and graze it. I had several people that said it was mostly like alfalfa for bloat. Trefoil I know has no bloat risk but I get alot more yield on fields of red clover then I do on trefoil.

I've seen holsteins bloat on red clover. Trick is to give them a good feed of dry hay before turning them out on pasture and don't turn them out too early when there's still dew on the clover. That might be pretty late by the clock because of daylight saving time.

how much red clover do you have in pasture? i haven't had any problems (knock on wood). because of thistles i have wondered if should hit pasture with 2,4d and frost seed red clover next year.

I have a lot of orchardgrass and brome in my pastures with some alfalfa and clover. I am going to plant a pasture of red clover and annual ryegrass this summer and then switch to orchardgrass in the fall and turnips in the late fall and early winter.
