I was thinking about planting a few acres in pumpkins this year just for fun and figured I'd ask you fella's for some tips and tricks.

What's involved in seedbed prep and what type of seeding techniques are typically used? How much irrigation is needed.

I'm shooting for an October harvest and we typically have nice late summers.

Thanks in advance,

Dave

i have heard a lot of talk about planting pumpkins. seems like you have to weld all but two of the slots in the planter plates up to get some spacing between hills. i don't plant much but just use a lay off plow on a cub to make a furrow and then hand drop the seeds with 3 or 4 seed to a hill. talk to some local people who can guide ou as to the name pumkins that do well in your area and plant several different kinds. some for pies, some for carving and some of the smaller kind that has all the colorful markings on them. i think you need to have a lot of space between the different varities.
