I got a small stand that I'm undecided what to with. I was originally thinking of putting up my own alfalfa, but I know it's alot of work.
But my other options what to put up something I can cut and bale and just dry farm it.
Throw out some ideas please? Dry farming it would definately be the better option for me. Can I plant anything in the spring? Or should I just work the ground this spring and summer and plant in the fall?

I would plant those cacti - the peyote ones. I heard they have a fantastic crop. But seriously. I thought that farmers in that area pay for irrigated water. And that predictions stated that they would only get 1/2 of the water they wanted to begin with this up coming season 2008.

Do you have enough water for alf-alfa?

I am not very versed in desert hay production.

Out of my league

Central valley california. Good amount of clay in the ground, but surprisingly good drainage still.

I assume you are in a semi-arid type climate where there is a lot of irrigation? Give us a bunch more info. on your locaiton and situation.
