The reason I asked about length is, I sell to horse people, lazy horse people, and they scream like a mashed cat if you make 50 lb. bales, If I can get them to 35 lbs. they are tickled pink and will pay the same money for them. I am baling about a 38 inch bale and being that light the strings are loose and I hate that. I was wondering if I went to 34 inches If I could get the product I want....

I would go to 34" bales. I've found my baler likes to wander in size just a little, 1-1.5 inches, the 34" bales seem to stack a little neater and my customers are happy. By the way, I use a NH super 68 baler.

Not only that, make them a bit shorter say 36 inches and they will be much easier to stack.

Shortening to 24" is a real good idea, I think I am heading that direction, want tighter strings but not a 50 or 60 pound bale. The 35 lb. is probably about right.

Yes, shortening bale length is certainly an option. I fudged a few years ago, and went to a 36" lenght. Since I use a NH stackliner my bales have to be tight. I felt like I was losing money selling my hay in bales much tighter than anyone else around here yet the same length.

Local standard is 38 and Im running 36.
