Check on ebay for a Delmorst moisture tester. I used the Farmtek ones for a while, they are ok except on estimating stem moisture in first cutting. Tend test low on this compaired to oven dried. When my last one died, I upgraded to the Delmorst. The sprayer units that the other folks talk about are great, I've had one for 10 years now.

moisture meters in reply to kyhayman, 08-20-2006 09:48:05
Thanks for the info, the delmorst make several models & are they ever pricey!! Twice what the on tractor model RHT-20 from gemplers. Prolly last twice as long tho, eh? I don't put up hundreds of acres either. My fields varying radically in the second cutting, late aug or first sept

Main thing I found is the speed of the reading. Most of the lesser expensive units give a fast read, too fast, and you need to know your correction factor. Losing a barn full of hay brings the price down fast (as does throwing away a cutting that didnt get enough acid, dont ask me how I know that, lol). The Farmteks I had were within 2% of oven moisture, the Delmorst within .3%. My last used unit was under $114 on ebay.

I think its the one,I have a probe kind also. You might have to call southern states to get that, they only sell to vendors. But,you can try and call alltech in nicholasville ky and see if they can ship you one. They sell the persavative and agspray makes the units for them.Southern states wanted $600 for the unit and alltech sold me the same unit for $430. Alltech-859-885-9613

also those moisture meters can be gotton off ebay sometimes.

Hey that's a great bit of info, thanks. I ordered the agspray w/on tractor controls 'bout hour ago! $576. I went to cropcure.com & got the powder that makes 25 gal, cheaper then freighting "water" up here. Still searching around for a net wrap accessory for this twine tie baler.

I have a agspray unit.Go to agspray.com and check them out.Its a 25 gallon deal with 3 spray heads you mount looking at your pickup. It is great. You can adjust moisture output with the incab control. It has a lb per to guage you mount on your baler to keep track of how much your outting on.The acid will have a chart with it telling you how many pounds per ton for the moisture content you are baling.I have great luck baling squares at 20-22% moisture. It must help preserve the sugar because the hay really has a sweeter smell..mouth watering actualy..lol go to gemplers.com and look at farmtechs moisure moniter for the baler too.
