Has anyone been ripped off on E-BAY since they eliminated negative feedback? I just did and the guy (seller) was fearlessly confident I had no recourse with regard to his having completly misrepresented the part I purchased.

James and I still buy a fair amount of stuff off Ebay. I don't mind if the shipping rates are inflated a little bit, but only to a point. If they are way out of line, I report the item and it gets pulled. For instance, recently I was looking at flash drives for the computer. These things are about the size of your thumb (also called thumb drives). I spotted a series of auctions by the same seller that had shipping charges of $19.00. I turned every one of his auctions in for excessive shipping.

I believe that will be the straw that breaks this camel's back.

Like others have said, eBay used to be a great place - I've had one bad transaction in seven years and over 175 items bought/sold. Lately it's not working that great for me.

Has anyone tried craigs list. Seems to me more and more out there. Quicker then waiting 7 days for bidding to end.

Ebay used to be a great site with honest people conducting honest transactions. I used it for years with nary a problem and got a lot of great deals. Over the last year or so, most of the items I've looked at I've passed on for one reason or another: hard to tell if item was as represented, seller seemed fishy, shipping charges unreasonable, bids got too high for "auction" condition items (shill bidders??), no answer to questions, etc. IMO, Ebay has become a playground for scam artists, so it's caveat emptor when bidding online.

Wow. So what's the use of "feedback"? Sheesh.

Allen, the buyer can leave any kind of rating. The seller barred from leaving natatory ratings. Ebay is trying to some small extent to weed out the bottom feeders. The shipping charges have gone over the edge.

$300 dollars try $1800 dollar that a scammer got. Ebay stood by the scammer due the wessel words used by the seller. Learned this from a seller I contact at times. IF the sellers rating is below 99% buyer be ware. A US postal money is good insurance if in question. One thing I picked up from this site is if the question is not answered DO NOT bid.
Ebay charges to the seller is now by the amount of stars the seller has left showing. The lesser the star showing the more ebay charges. Too little to late. My rule of tumb at flea markets is if has plug pass on.

I just bought a supposedly "strong running, great condition" snowmobile engine. Upon recieving it I noticed it was haphazardly packaged. That was the least of my worries as the engine didn't even turn over. The seller scammed me and knew that the shipping makes it so I can't get a refund. Then he suggested scamming ups for any money the motor needs. I'm new to ebay and two of three transactions have been bad so far. This one set me back over $300. Buyer beware Ebay doesn't seem to care what happens to you as long as they get their cheese! The new feedback system is good though, the other bad one was a retalitory feedback by a seller who sold me a faulty part.

This seller threatened my 100% positive rating stating he would mirror any negative feedback he received from me. I mentioned to him in a return e-mail that feedback where I am concerned is not as big a deal for me because I am a buyer only and so was not as important to me as he surmised. Since, I have tried three separte times to reveal the lack of character on this bad apple with negative feed back and when I click to send it, bingo nothing happens. I can't help but think Craig's list will be seeing more play and other such survices resulting from the new and enlightened e-bay. Those large cororations don't usually make those kinds of moves without thorough confidence it will increase the use of their services. Personnally it will have the opposite effect on this buyer. beware the new e-bay!

Tried one more time to send the buyer warning (negative feedback) and found that due to my lack of computer savy I hadn't been clicking enough boxes, it finally went through. While I'm out the dollars this seller ripped me for I have some satisfaction knowing he apparently forgot he can't lambast honest buyers and his threat of ruining my feedback with a "mirrored" negative feedback can't be realized. I like e-bay again!

Works for me.

As I recently stated on another thread, I recently bought what was listed as an owner's manual for an '89 Chevy pickup. The photo was fuzzy and you couldn't read the printing on the front. But--what do you anticipate for an owner's manual? What I received was a 10 page maintenance schedule. I had paid with Paypal within 15 minutes of the auction ending.

I left the seller negative feedback for mis-representing the item. Up to that point, I had 100% positive feedback as a buyer. This dork ripped me with negative feedback, said I was a bad e-bayer, warned everyone not do deal with me, etc, etc.

All I can say is if you're squeaky clean as a seller, you have nothing to worry about. Anyone who is upset about it must be someone who is planning on NOT being squeaky clean.

That is correct. No more negatives or neutrals. Buyers are 100% safe from feedback. I guess ebay is going with the stance "If you have nothing nice to say, don't say nothing at all". I have sold money things on ebay and have been ripped off 3 times in the past month. I am thinking about stopping using ebay as of late.

But, he's talking about the seller.

Huh?

Am I reading the rules wrong?

"Buyers, you can no longer receive negative or neutral Feedback from sellers."
