We had 3 inches of rain over the weekend. I'm hoping its dry enough that I can spray today.

Have to get the planted stuff sprayed before it comes out of the ground.

Maybe it will be dry enough that I can get back to planting tomorrow.

How are you guys coming along on the planting?

Finally finished plowing for my 4 acres of beans this afternoon. Got another 1/2" of rain yesterday, maybe more tomorrow or Saturday. Hope next week is dry so I can finish and move on to painting gravity wagon and other exciting stuff.

Not a kernel planted. All the rye and wheat is off the corn ground. Waiting on the manure pumpers to get the lagoons emptied so we can start planting. Looks like first of June at the soonest before the corn's planted.

So far it's been dry for 2-3 weeks with a soaker in between the last 2-3 weeks of dry weather. 200 acres behind us is planted in corn, just no rain. Most fields are planted, except the ones furthest from the farms.

I've mentioned it before, but after being drenched for years straight, everything that passes through is a left over storm breaking up, except when we do get a soaker, no thunderstorms yet, between now and into July seems to be the best time of year for em. Last night a system came through, supposed to rain but did not do enough to wet the dust in the driveway. Great weather for working outside, grasses are not growing at record pace like in previous years.

The 7 acres of oats I was worried about is up 3"-4", and it looks good, execept one symmetrical swath down the middle, looks like the seed population was not as thick as the rest, it must have been drilled in, and what left was on top I think could have been dragged and rolled to max out germination, just seemed like a lot of seed, though it usually pays off to really seed it well when it comes to grasses, clovers and similar around here.

Hate to say it but we do need rain here, those oats will take off, and I've harrassed the heck out of the geese, they're getting wary of me and that field, though I've got 2 of the 2 dozen young here brooding and feeding, seem like they'll easily make it too, sent the rest back, saw em head to the adults, they stopped bringing em over so far which is a good thing, if we get some rain, those oats will grow enough and they'll not bother with em.

Better put it in high gear because we have rain just south west of you so its probably heading your way. Yep raining here this morning and it started around 1Am last night. Been so wet here I don't have all my garden in yet. Also been pretty cold most nights so what I do have in the garden isn't growing very fast

Southern Minnesota, I have 2.5 acres planted now..... Got that in yesterday. We never had more than an inch at a time, but we have had many many times of rain....

Fert guys are coming soon, _hope_ they can get through the wet spots, I knocked 25 acres off of the plan as they for sure wouldn't get through that land. Need to get something going. He said the spreader wasn't far from me. Stuck. So they are about 3 hours behind schedule.

I said don't put the chains away.....

If we miss the rain that is 30% for this afternoon, might get something accomplished the rest of this week.

Iam north central MO. The ground is still wet. We never did get our 85 acres of oats put in, first time thats ever happened, only have 50 acres of corn in, 1/2 of the corn spray on .Just over 3/4 of anhydras on . Cant spray bean ground because I have atrazine setting in the sprayer, only 140 gallon thank goodness. Well another day to sort cattle.

Fert spreaders were running around W-burg Tues night, and a guy was putting on smoke next door last night. They were spraying yellow's this morning on the other side. I still see some soggy spots on the side hills though, and talking to the tender driver, they've been hung up a few times this spring.

I am surprised to see as many people around here still putting on NH3. Spending the time in the tractor to apply, then waiting 7-10 days to plant??

Rained all night here.

Not all that familiar with this "wet stuff". Don't know how to react. Scared to get the mower out; afraid it will stop. :>(

Getting just enough rain to stop things here too. Finally got my crops in Tuesday night. My father"s crops are still waiting. He had a knee replaced and had planned for a neighbour to put the crop in this spring. Neighbour is just as wet and behind as everybody else. Might be a couple of dry days over the long weekend. May just have to slap the seed into the soil and be less fussy about seedbed prep and stones.

Not good over here . Some of the guys that are no tilling have some crops out but with the lower temps nothing has come up we only have 10- 11 acres plowed and it is way to wet to get on the ground. Sun is up for today but from the looks of things today is the only day as more rain and cool temps are hanging around.

We only got about .5 on Sat. here in southern Mn. Got back in on Tues. on our heavy black, gooy, stuff. Worked up 42 acres yesterday and it went nice, so will get back at planting today plus trying to spray, and then go at the beans..... sometime. Plus watching the beef cows with calving..... ...they say only take on as much work as your wife can get done

My crops are all in as of 9:30 last night. The "ready to go" 7000 planter, wasnt ready to go. I also worry I didnt get as high of population on my bean ground drilled as I was shooting for. Rye is coming on strong. Dont see any oats up yet. Friends place is still saturated. Out of 700 acres we can probably start on 40-80 of it if it does not rain in the next day or two. Rest of the land way to wet.

Beans are pretty forgiving on population.

If you get a final stand of 125,000 or more you will be fine.

100,000 ain't terrible.

What did you plant?

As best as I can figure I planted 5.5-6 50# bags, with 2870 seeds per pound. This feild is between 6-7 acres. My math shows with 90% germination I could have anywhere from 101,000-129,000. Its a funny shaped feild. I tried to set the drill according to the book, but it seemed to heavy, so I kept backing it off until I thought I had 4-5 seeds per foot(12"rows). Learning year for me. Sucks cause I have 3 bags of innoculated seed left. I think I planted to sparse. The variety is supposed to be medium-short height and bushy. Renk RS107RR. Is over seeding later an option if too thin?

Put the seed in an air tight container and it'll keep till next year and be the cheapest seed you plant--next year.
Air tight, like a cleaned swimming pool chorline bucket, or one of those barrels the bakerys get their pie filling in.

Don't overseed later.

I'm sure you woulda liked the 3 bags used up, but drilled on 12 inch rows your 100k+ should come out ok. Esp as you are planting early (for this year anyhow!!!!).

I really need to figure out what I am doing as it is looking promising for picking up 106 more acres next spring if I play my cards right.
