Hi everbody,
I've got a foxtail proplem. I've got a little over an acre of oats planted. One end of the field has fox tail just popping up . The oats are 2 inches tall. What can i do about it? Is there a spray. ? No problem with broadleafs. It's going to get real bad it looks like. Maybe i should disc that small section up and replant only take an hour or so. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks Farmer

If you can swath your oats, and know somebody that has an old combine, with a power clean system, you will be able to get rid of the seeds at harvest. Combine 4 days after swathing is done, so that the fox tail will dry, and the seeds will thresh out into the shower clean, and into a feed bag for disposal. Best weed killer I ever used. These new combines just replant weeds for next years crop.
Hope this helps.
Bruce.

Have a sharp sickle if you swathe the oats. Will be ok.

If you straight combine, good luck.....

With both foxtail and oats being of a grass type, it's not going to be easy to find a herbicide that will work, and with just a few acres that makes it economically unfeasabele to spray.

What is the intended use of the oats crop? If it was hay, foxtail doesn't make bad hay.

If its grain, it will hurt the yield of that end of the field, but should run through the combine OK, not sure if the fans would blow the foxtail out though.

That's not much help, but best I can think of right now.
