Local tire dealer has an ad in the paper saying to hurry up and get your ag tires now before the 8% increase APR. 1 how fitting on fool's Day

Next I suspect to see tire makers boasting of profits up by 8% !!!!

About $250.00 each for 4 ply tire for Alliance tires, 8 ply are 40.00 higher. Firestones are about 300.00 for tire only 6 ply.

We sell Firestone 7.50-16 8 ply implement tires for about $72.00 now, tube is about 13.00, disposal is 3.00 and in Illinois farm use is tax exempt, so that is not too far out of line.

this is the weekend to buy...fiscal year ends Monday, and all are trying to get units for volume rebates from manufacturers. Go to your local dealer and ask for "employee pricing"- you might be surprised. All bets are off on the first- it will be all about margin then

fiscal year starts April 1..... .

do not worry about any tire companies boasting increased profits- retail, wholesale or manufacturer. Take oil to make 'em and oil to ship 'em..... and takes oil to use 'em. We're screwed...

Everyone's wage increases are a numbers game. Most cost of living adjustments are made based on core inflation. Since the early 80's, the definition of core inflation was changed to exclude energy and food. Since 99% of American's spend a significant chunk of their pay on food and energy, guess what happens? We get pinched.

While I'm on my soap box, what has always burned my buns is to hear realtor's talk about how hows will appreciate at 10% per year. Wait a second. If wages increase at about 2% those two lines diverge and not converge. Eventually, something was bound to give. Looks like it has :)

Avoid the big rush, hurry up and go bankrupt now while things are "cheap". Gas and diesel up 50-75%, food prices up 15%, tires 8%, ect,

My paycheck up 2%

It doesn't take a math wizzard to figure out what's happening. regardless of the fact there's a reason, there's no excuse.

There. I feel better now.

You got that sad 2% "cost of living" increase in pay, too? I asked my employer if they realized that the cost of living has gone up 10% to 15% in the last year and that 2% barely covers the increase in what we spend on groceries alone...

Consider if they increased your pay by 35% to keep pace with the increase of goods and services... Your employer would have to increase the prices of their goods and/or services by at least 35%. The people that buy good/services from your company would have to increase their prices/pay by at least 35%, and so on and so forth...

Looks good on paper for a few weeks, but pretty soon you're right back in the same boat, just the numbers are 35% higher than before.

So. Obviously you're pleased with the current state of our economy? I'm most definately NOT. I'd just as soon not need a cost of living increase, but rather see the products we buy stay in line with what we make. Like I said, it doesn't take a math wizz to see where w're headed. 10%, 15%, and 25% increases in cost every year, vs virtually the same income as 10 years ago, it won't be long before it won't matter. We'll be living in tents and eating our shoes.

Well with oil prices up yep tires have to go up for 2 reasons. #1 is there made from oil and #2 the trucking cost also goes up. If they would start to use oil/gas prices to figure inflation then things would add up but they don't so things do not work out as they should and prices go up pay stays the same so we hurt all that much more. So if you really want to blame some one blame the oil company's and there record profits for the past 5-10 years

Bingo! Plus- use goes down as a result of fuel price, so sales go down...
Look for lotsa "mom-and-pop" tire guys to fold up tent this year...unless we get another Firestone recall

not trying to start anything..but...

Blaming the oil companies is just like blaming the farmer for $5+ corn and $13 beans....

Blame the weak dollar, made our grain and all commodities traded in dollars(oil) cheaper on the world market in other currencies... So price in dollars goes up to keep the same price elsewhere.

True the weak dollar does not help but when the oil company's have record profits year after year there is some thing wrong and that in its self hurts every one but the oil company's

There is something to that, Carlylse sent new price list effective 04/01/08, said it was going to be about an 8% increase. Right now when I sell a tire, I check price with distributor, quote a price, tell customer that price is good for a hour, then after that, it may be higher, because of the amount of pretroleum products used to make tires, their prices are a bad as gas with fluctuation. These are lawn and garden tires, not ag tires that I am speaking of.
