I was just wondering how others were doing on tractor sales with the warmer weather approaching. I have been getting a lot of people looking to sell, but not many looking to buy. It is probably the worst I have seen it in many years.

I read a article that said new tractors are selling out. And the price of used is going up.
They stated that with high prices for corn and beans some farmers actually have a few bucks to upgrade some well used equipment.

I would say no. I sold a G JD last week and bought a 420 back. The G goes out of state and the 420 is also out of state. I need a road trip after this winter. I have a lot of inquires about others I have for sale. Was really dead all winter though.

i don't see how it would really. yeah fuel is high and such but do you stop using tractors because the fuel is high? farmers need the tractors usually...regaurdless of fuel costs. the salesman at my local deere dealer said sales have been about normal but a little over this year.

In my opinion. I say no it is not. Here in Central MO. I myself bought a new tractor in Dec. I asked the salesman just last week how sales were and he stated that he had sold the most tractors this winter that he has ever sold. I think for real farmers, unlike me, they had a very profitable year selling way to exspensive corn. my 1.5 cents

dej, I don"t think anyone has a clue to what it takes to run a dealership because they want first rate service when they want it or absolutely need it and then during the cold, snowy and nothing going on time of year you could lock the doors and no one would know still the utility bills keep piling up payroll has to be made with little or no money coming in then they decide they want a tractor or combine or whatever and want it right away because they saw what they wanted at another dealership while on vacation somewhere 100"s of miles away. Don"t get me started then some company genius decides to hold a tech training class right in the middle of your busiest time of year (which is required by the way) to maintain your franchise so you have a tech sittin in a hotel conference room suckin on donuts and drinkin coffee while customers are screamin for service so some of us untrained types try to keep the pot from simmering to a boil then the tech comes back Monday morning and would like to entertain a raise since now he has a patch and certificate with training paid for by me! My suggestion is you big farmer types need to budget for a plane ticket to go get parts or do it through the internet and wait for the UPS truck OR do your repairs during the winter months while parts are cheap and the poor dealers need the money!BTW those fancy dealership buildings and displays are required also to maintain your contract. Sorry guys had to vent! CT

I bought last September before I knew what was going on...that was the bad news. The good news is the tractor is marvelous and the fuel efficiency and work function is superfluous.....better than I imagined.

I will say this. I just bought a new Deere 2305 utility tractor, 3 weeks ago. I got a good price and the financing is 0% for 36 months. I love the machine. However if any other tractor manufacturers out there want to complain about sales then Listen carefully....

1. I tried since last July to buy a 5000 series new cub cadet tractor, no luck 3 cub dealerships didnt return my calls and didnt care one bit that I had money to buy what they are selling. I later found out the the 5000 series cubs arent made anymore and I had to wait for the new diesel cubs that will have Yanmar motors in them. Well, 6 months have gone by and they still dont have a 24Hp diesel out yet..... So I bought the Deere. I cant believe that Cub Cadet is in business still after the runaround that I got from them and their dealers.

2. I called a Massey Dealer, 30 miles from me and the guy never (Never returned) 2 phone calls from me I described the 2 models that I would buy and the attachments that I would buy Etc. I even talked to him on the phone in late January. The guy never called me back, Sickening. I dont sound like a kid on the phone making a crank call either. Massey lost a $12k sale because of a stupid dealer, next closest Massey dealer is over 50 miles away, so I dont get a Massey.

I didnt want a Compact Case/Ih/New holland. I should have given them a honest look at other then look at their website, but Oh well. I looked at the Kubota website, but everybody has a Kubota and Deere has the 0% financing and 3 year Warranty. Also the Deere 2305 is better then the Kubota BX series, by far. And I didnt want the 7610 series Kubota. Kioti, no knowledge of them, didnt want one, Jinma,...No Fricken way....No Chink junk. Branson....No small tractors, not compact enough. Montana, same as Branson problem. (no dealers near me. My Deere Dealer was very helpful in selling me a tractor, he actually wanted to sell me one. I am still waiting on a price for a brush hog and a few other things. But overall the Deere dealership in Davison Mi. is a good dealer. I bought the tractor for grass cutting, driveway gravel maint. and snow removal and some landscaping, tree removal, logs etc. If anybody on this site works for a cub dealer then fill me on the stupidity of the marketing, cancelling a tractor line and not having a replacement ready.

I sure do get a kick outta you naive country bumkins. LMFAO Thinking you don't pay extra for these "zero" percent dealer shenanigans. I guess there is a sucker born every minute. You never did get me those directions which is too dang bad because I want to come and give you some nuggies and pull your underwear band up over your head every time you ladies carry on like this. Are you afraid of operating a real tractor like a real man would own? Did the wife have to teach you how to drive it too? LMAO!!!

Depends on what ya mean by tractors. Antiques and collectible, maybe soft. Farm tractors, through the roof. Hard to get your hands on a new one. Saw a 93 Deere 7800 sell last week for $64,000.An 8650 brought about $15,000 more than a similar one did a year ago.

Absolutely. I work at a semi trailer dealership and we are taking in more trailers to sell than selling. I sell tractors and parts to keep my collecting up and make improvements on the home place. No sales right now.

I quit trying to sell any of my tractors. Don't count on the Deere guys lowering the prices on the putt putts anytime soon.

You betcha. I'm in need of a small used tractor, but more and more of my disposable income goes into the gas tanks of our cars to get back and forth to work. Also, the price of gas/diesel affects the price of everything we buy that must be transported, so that compounds the situation, i.e. price on groceries is going up, leaving less money for "extras", like tractors. Once I have the tractor, I don't think even 50 cents one way or the other will affect how I use it, since it would only be used on weekends for a few hours a day.

So, I think it is safe to say that the price of fuel is affecting the sale of lots of stuff, not just tractors. The recession we are in is making many of us reconsider our purchases to wait for more secure times.

Yep! especially if it has to be shipped. In our area we are in a serious recession. No one has any money locally. So if someone out-of -state is looking to buy, shipping is a major cost. I have sold some things last week...dont get me wrong. Parts are even slow, it could be a whole lot better.

I think it has been hurting the sales for at least a few years now. I never seem to find any buyers in my area.
