Bought a MF165 with a PTO pump to run the loader and I added a 6" brush hog. The problem is that the 10"" shaft that runs thru the pump shears in the coupler. The brush hog has a 1/2"" grade 5 shear bolt that should fail. The shaft is dead soft. Do I need a harden shaft and coupler?
If so were can I buy them. Been unable to find such a thing.
Thanks

Did you shorten the mower pto shaft to compensate for the added length of the pto pump. You may be binding the shaft because it is too long. Also don't try to lift the mower to full height, the added pump length will cause joint bind even if you shorten the shaft.

The mower PTO fit without shortening but is all the way in. Would cutting it down help.

Hmmmm,

Sounds like a cheap China-type knock off?

Just can't imagine twisting off the real McCoy. 'Bout $35 at any tractor parts house.

Most shear bolts i see are soft grade 2. Double-Check your mowers manual to see if it needs a hard bolt or not.

Also.. are you saying the pto stub/spline extender is made of mild steel and not hard steel?
