My 99 4x4 Ram just started leaking PS fluid from the selector shaft seal. Up until tonight there was no trace of a leak. Will I get away with just replacing the lower seal and adjusting the preload, should i rebuild it or get a recon unit. I've changed lower seal sucessfully in similar steering gear boxes on other trucks but not on a Dodge. Interested to hear anyone's expirience with this steering box before I drag myself under it tomorrow. Thanks
Chris

David, I removed the P/S box to do it on the bench. I took out the pitman arm shaft as you said. Fitting the seals was fairly simple, and has stopped the leak. Thanks for all your help. Chris

I just put new seals in the power-steering box on my 92 Dodge W250. It was actually the same as all my GMs. Dual seals and a snap ring behind the pitman arm. Took less than an hour.

David, can i remove the retaining ring, pressurize the box and force the old seal out without removing the sector shaft. Then fit the new seal?
Thanks

don't think it will work like the gm gear .think you must remove pitman arm the hard part, then remove top of gearbox ,pull shaft up and then remove seal. you could try the old gm way first before you remove the top / if it won't come out you have not lost anything.david
