My brother has a Volvo cab over truck. It is a 1987 model FE7. The truck has sat most of it's life. He used it hauling his cattle. It has 67,000 miles. Since he doesn't have cattle any more he is thinking of selling it. He said he would like to get 8,700. Is that a fair price? Too much, or too little? Thanks stan

$8,700 sounds a little steep for a 20 year old truck. I looked at an early 90's FE7 a couple of years ago at a used truck dealer priced at $5,900. truckpaper.com is a good place to look for trucks and prices. If you're planning long road trips, the FE7 will probably beat you to death. Also, I've found that sitting unused ususally doesn't do a piece of machinery much good. $8,700 might be "chump" money compared to what you might have to spend.
$3,500 would be a fairer price.

Hmmmm. I'm not rightly familiar with that truck, but I do have half an idea what it is. Depending on his locality be may get that for it but I would tend to think it closer to the hundred bucks a tonne mark than what he wants....
If you find someone with a fondness for european cabover trucks then you might get a buyer, otherwise I think he's got a liability on his hands.... or he needs to find someone needing a cheap truck and willing to take a gamble.
'Here', trucks just get old and fall apart. It's the salt belt, and it gets them, one and all.
It's got two things against it. 1. It's a cabover. 2. It's no doubt got an oddball Volvo power train that will cost a fortune to repair for even every day service items.
There's a reason why more trucks than most are powered by Cummins, Cat and Detroit all driving RoadRanger transmissions. They're common and easy to obtain used parts for....
Volvo is not. Might be a great truck, but it will be preceived as a problem, and when you put it to work it will break down the same as all the rest.

I do not know the value, but have known a couple people who had them, and they seem to run forever, though if it has been setting a long time figure on cleaning fuel system, any hydraulic brake lines and cylinders, etc.
