I have a Long Tractor with 64 hrs Diesel. Has 1180 hrs on timer. When I got it home. I was advised to put in "power service supplement + cetame boost" Which I have done. ..Now my tractor is outside. Have no building for it yet. I live in mid Missouri and its been a bit cold. Now when I start it up it smokes a lot. After it warms up it slows down on the smoke but not totaly. ... Did not notice it smoking when I bought it. So would the Power Service I put in it make is smoke?

I have a 2610 and is pretty close to the same as a 610. Long tractors are known for diesel slobber if they're not loaded well. When splitting wood or feeding cattle mine smokes and it also gets a buildup in the exhaust pipe and muffler. When hay time comes and running the round baler or pulling a V-tank spreader for the first hard load of the year, I've seen sparks and even flames come out the exhaust in the first 20 min. or so. After that the exhaust pipe gets a smooth look. I've seen fields that caught fire from Longs turning soil with a bottom plow. So if you see slobber start to run down the outside of the exhaust be careful when you work it hard and make sure you don't start fires behind you if it's dry.

Put that tractor to work and it'll still smoke some but it'll clean the pipe out too. Lucas fuel additive works wonders on a Longs exhaust also.

I'd put a generous amout of Lucas Upper Cylinder Lubricant in it. I've seen that stuff clear up some pretty lousy running engines in a short amount of time.

The smoking when is normal, especially for Longs. Check to see if your thermostat is working properly as this will help it warm up quicker. Mine have 180s in them.

It is the nature of the beast. Diesel's run better when warmed to operating temp. You don't say what you are using your tractor for, Are you working it enough to get it warmed up good? If it's not working hard, it wouldn't hurt to cover part or all of the grill in front of the radiator to cut airflow and warm it up faster. Just keep an eye on temp guage. When you start it up, make sure you let it run long enough to get warmed up. I try to make sure I run mine about a 1/2 hour at least. Chris

Also, you didn't say, but I'll bet the smoke is whitegray color? That's the unburned fuel going out the stack. Chris

The fuel additive is not making it smoke, no difference on my diesel except Powerservice conditioner keeps it from gelling. OH, YEAH my diesel smokes too in this cold weather for way too long. The additive has a purpose, to keep fuel from gelling and correct some second rate fuel issues. Don't worry about the smoke, PS is not the issue, the weather is. DOUG

How hard are you running the engine? In cold weather I never let mine 'idle' below 12-1400. Helps keep the radiator warm enough that it burns the fuel correctly. If it gets cold enough though they will still smoke out the exhaust, no matter what you do. As long as it isnt smoking a lot out of the blowby tube it should be ok.

all diesels will smoke when cold ,if you have a block heater try plugging it in for a couple of hours before starting .and keep the power service in it during cold weather to keep fuel fluid .
