Maybe O/T...John Deere + Polaris Incident

OK, this starts out involving my best friend buying a Polaris Indy snowmobile years back and not telling his father that he bought it and parked it behind the JD 4x4 in the shed. Father then backs over front end, friend needs to replace hood, pan, skis, etc... That should satisfy the tractor linkage and keep it relevant to the forum, maybe? :-)

Anyway, he purchased 2 new sleds this year and gave me this old Indy Trail (1988) for a Christmas present (I felt really bad because all he got from me was a big bottle of Bailey's and a huge set of Hot Wheels toys for his 3 boys...).

Well it runs great but in order to be prepared for "that day", just like the days old tractors all have, when it eventually needs mechanical help, I was hoping someone could recommend a good forum/site for older snowmobiles. I Googled it and found many sites but there has to be a favorite for those of you with snowmobiles, just like YT is for many tractor folk.

Any pointers out there?

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all! Looking forward to another great year on the YT site with all of you great people!

Not sure if an 88 qualifies as vintage, but this is a real good site for the old, old ones.

Lots of people say "It's not the gift but the thought that counts," which I tend to subscribe to.

Back in the '60's, my cousin took the snowmobile out on the lake after my uncle told him ice wasn't thick enough, don't do it. Uncle was...somewhere, so he did it anyway. Uncle was right, through the ice and under it went. Not as deep as it seemed, but too heavy to just lift and navigate out after lassoing part of it. So, cousin went home and got the Deere 70. Looking back on it a few minutes later, if the ice was too thin for the snowmobile... But cousin was in a panic. That tractor didn't get too far though, down the shore embankment and through the ice immediately, plowing ice until it came to a stop with the grill pretty bashed in, and he couldn't get it out either. By then uncle was home and cousin fessed up. I don't know how he survived the beating, because he got pummled but good. Another Deere to pull the first one out, and the snowmobile stayed under until Spring. Deeres and snowmobiles still don't always mix, apparently.

Depending upon how badly it got ran over, it might not be worth as much as you think. Since it hasn't been fixed its basically worth junk price, and I'd seriously question weither it would be ok with some new parts or if the chassies got bent so it will never be right again or perhaps isn't even fixable. Not to be mean, but your friend might have priced the repairs it needs and found it better to just give it away since a sled of that year is worth about a maximum of $1,000 if it was all straight.
Merry Christmas and hope this helps, please don't take offense to my post as I am only trying to be helpful.

Maybe I worded my first post poorly...It got ran over MANY years ago and has been fixed correctly and driven for years. I just want a link to a reputable forum online in case I ever need to make any repairs myself. I rode it all day today and had no issues nor has he since it was fixed.
