Passing this along. Makes you wonder how much our fore fathers believed in those 4 little words.
Dave

You always hear the usual stories of pennies on the sidewalk being good luck, gifts from angels, etc. This is the first time I've ever heard this twist on the story. Gives you something to think about.
Several years ago, a friend of mine and her husband were invited to spend the weekend at the husband's employer's home. My friend, Arlene, was nervous about the weekend. The boss was very wealthy, with a fine home on the waterway, and cars costing more than her house
The first day and evening went well, and Arlene was delighted t o have this rare glimpse into how the very wealthy live. The husband's employer was quite generous as a host, and took them to the finest restaurants. Arlene knew she would never have the opportunity to indulge in this kind of extravagance again, so was enjoying herself immensely.

As the three of them were about to enter an exclusive restaurant that evening, the boss was walking slightly ahead of Arlene and her husband.
He stopped suddenly, looking down on the pavement for a long, silent moment.

Arlene wondered if she was supposed to pass him. There was nothing on the ground except a single darkened penny that someone had dropped, and a few cigarette butts. Still silent, the man reached down and picked up the pe nny.

He held it up and smiled, then put it in his pocket as if he had found a great treasure. How absurd! What need did thi s man have for a single penny? Why would he even take the time to stop and pick it up?

Throughout dinner, the entire scene nagged at her. Finally, she could stand it no longer. She casually mentioned that her daughter once had a coin collection, and asked if the penny he had found had been of some value.

A smile crept across the man's face as he reached into his pocket for the penny and held it out for her to see. She had seen many pennies before! What was the point of this?

"Look at it." He sai d. "Read what it says." She read the words "United States of America"
"No, not that; read further."
"One cent?" "No, keep reading."
"In God we Trust?" "Yes!" "And?"
"And if I trust in God, the name of God is holy, even on a coin. Whenever I find a coin I see that inscription. It is written on every single United States coin, but we never seem to notice it! God drops a message right in front of me telling me to trust Him? Who am I to pass it by? When I see a coin, I pray, I stop to see if my trust IS in God at that moment. I pick the coin up as a response to God; that I do trust in Him. For a short time, at least, I cherish it as if it were gold. I think it is God's way of starting a conversation with me. Lucky for me, God is patient and pennies are plentiful!

When I was out shopping today, I found a penny on the sidewalk. I stopped and picked it up, and realized that I had been worrying and fretting in my mind about things I cannot change. I read the words, "In God We Trust," and had to laugh. Yes, God, I get the message.

It seems that I have been finding an inordinate number of pennies in the last few months, but then, pennies are plentiful! And, God is patient..

Face it as we drift away from him, the world continues to degrade.

Very interesting story. I always pick up the pennies I see. One day when I was entering a quick stop I meet 2 teenagers looking at their hand and at to same time taking the pennys and throwing them on the cement saying they dont buy anything anyway. Disturbing.

I like this story alot and will share it with all. As to the next generation yes we have questions, concerns, fears and doubts.

FWIW I am trying to do my part in some small way to ensure a bright future for our country. I am a Scoutmaster for a small rural troop (12 boys) and Venture Crew Advisor for same area (coed 20 youth).

If you read the Scout Oath and Law you will understand the values me and many others are working to instill in our youth.

Our Politically Incorrect world hides " IN GOD WE TRUST" on the new coin. P.S. I will try to keep them from my pocket for what little time my money remains there.

Sure seems to sum things up well. Sometimes I really wonder what the future holds for the next generations.

My next generation has blended somewhat into mine. I see my grandchlldren being raised to accept what I cannot. I now have great grandchildren and I shudder to think what they will or will not accept. Our family currently has four generations alive and what a vast and veery disturbing difference. I fear that this country will no longer exist in the next 50 years.

Things will change with every generation. Who knows what direction it will take us. There are a lot of no good kids out there but there are a lot of bright ones too. Theres lots of people on here that can account of their wasted youth that turned out ok!

LOL, I don't know where all you guys are hanging out, but the vast majority of young people that I meet are hard working, energetic, willing to get involved, moral, intelligent, and basically on the right track for success!! They're just good kids!

I just don't see the same gloom and doom that you guys are seeing.

By the way, didn't the generation ahead of yours say the same thing about you???--"jeeze, these kids will never amount to anything--this country is going to he!! in a hand basket." Well, you surprised them, didn't you...things didn't really turn out too bad!

Give'm a chance--they might just surprise you.

Respectfully,
Marc in Va

Boy I hope you're right! Nothing would make me happier! The only thing is, I work in a building with 650 kids in it 5 days a week, and 1 in 8 of these kids is the honest, hardworking, moral person you described. I see lies, laziness, immorality, and stupidity every time I turn around. Will they all turn out bad? Nope. Some will be the best darn leaders and producers this country has ever seen. These aren't the ones that worry me. It's the ones that simply don't give a rat's --- about doing what's right, because they don't have to. Don't do their work? No big deal, we move on the next year anyway. Don't have parents that work? No big deal, we get cards from the government to buy all the frozen pizza and potato chips we want. This is the attitude that I am convinced will pull this country right into the ground. There are countries around the world that make our schools, students, and education systems look like JOKES! That's scary.
