Am wanting to get an idea of worth. I need to buy a couple smaller used ones. One to cover a 1 acre peice and one to cover a 10 acres peice.

You might want to look at a Mini piviot from Zimmatic
I'm using one with a coverage area of 730 feet I'm pumping about 250gpm.

I,have some friends who have bought used, with mixed results. A lot depends on who and where you buy them
My sil has neighbors in se wyo who are using 35+year old machines with minumal repair

For that ammount of ground, a pivot will most likely be difficult and expensive to set up. If you are really serious about a pivot, look google up on the web and see if you can find some prices on used pivots. They are not cheap!

If it were me, I"d use handlines. 3 inch handlines are relatively cheap (~$25 for a used 40 ft stick and you might even be able to use 2 inch lines that are ~t $15 a stick)and is a breeze to handle.( I have 3 inch and 4 inch and the 4 inch is really tough for a long in the tooth guy like me to handle but I manage to do it on pride!). You"ll a need a pump that can supply about 7.5 gpm PER SPRINKLER HEAD at 40 psi at the head. You"ll require minimum of a 4 inch mainline from the pump to the field with valves at 60 ft intervals and this will cost you ~$50 per 30 ft stick. You"ll need valave openers that match your mainline risers AND handlines. A pipe trailer to store it on is also nice but for the small ammount of pipe you can build a rack to store it on near the field.

Opinions are like belly button-everybody"s got one. These are my opinions, for what they are worth.

Hi Dave,

Totally none of my business, but I really think that is a "bad" idea.

Sand/dirt traveling in the water (believe me, it is there) thins/wears the pipe on the bottom side. One of the reasons they have a short lifespan.

You couldn't give a used one away in this country.

Might be true there Allan, but not here east of ya 100 miles. Yep, we have a bit of sand in these parts too...but we DID manage to give away our old valley water drive pivot a couple years back. Don't know and don't care what they were gonna do with it either! We did save the wheels and made a halfway-good cowchip drag outta them, but they're too lightweight to really do the job....

The new pivot sure is nice too....the old water-drive hadn't made a complete revolution on it's own since it was two years old in 1977!

I respect your reply Allan, I just am trying to get some figures together and see what kind of deal I can get. With using chicken poop for fertilizer, I am kinda wondering if I should get a water delivery system out there in case we have dry springs and summer. The well I have is capable of about 500 GPM. Alot of people are updating systems in this area as well, be it tax write offs, or wanting better coverage, so I wanted to get an idea. There is an 80 acre peice adjacent to me that I hopefully will get to rent in the coming years, and would be an awesome producer being irrigated and managed chicken manure.

For sure,

That chicken manure is some hot stuff and you can very easily "burn" a crop.

500 gallons should handle the 10 acres I would think; really doubt if it can irrigate the 80 tho; just not enough water.

Don't forget that if the pump has been used as an open discharge, it will have to be pulled and pressure bowls installed. There's another four grand to think about.

There are irrigations systems sitting in the weeds all over the place out here. 'Bout 15 years is all ya can expect out of them due to the abrasive effects I spoke of earlier.

Ya, I gotta watch for that. I will have it inspected by Grand irrigation. Who knows maybe the drought years are over for a while.

Dave,

I replied once already, but it must`ve disappeared into cyber space.

I think you could pick up the old water drives pretty cheap. They ain`t as fancy as the electrics and reversing them is a pain in the butt, but if your only running a couple towers or they can make a full circle, they`d probably work fine.

I`m about 45-50 miles west of St. Cloud.
Center pivot irrigation is huge around here.
My FIL rents land from a guy who own alot of hunting land. There`s a complete one sitting out there over CRP ground. I also do alot of work or am friends with alot of the bigger crop farmer in this area, I could do some digging if ya want me to.

Are you wanting to get just a price idea, or are you looking for the right deal??

I left my email open, let me know if I can help.
BW

For an area that small it seems that you would be better off with a traveling gun.

A was gonna go that way but requires such great pressure that the cost of a motor and pump is too much, hoping to get a pivot system, and I should be able to get some assistance from the SWCD to convert it to low pressure system.

Finding a small one is liable to be a problem. There are some short span (6-700 ft) Zimatics around that are 25 years old and even those are $14-15,000 in "usuable condition" It won't take long to spend $5-7000 on repairs especially if the drives/motors are worn out or bad,or have rusty thin pipes, and no drops or nozzles. Best chance might be to find a farm where they aren't used and see if they can be bought, even if they are too long.

Prices here vary all over the map. Dad bought a good used quarter miler for $1100 at auction from an area that was running out of water a while back. He and my brother then moved it about 90 miles to get it down here, but it turned out fine.

A friend of mine gave $500 for one from a big farmer who just wanted to replace it with a new one.

I sold two older quarter mile Zimmatics for $9000 apiece and a 1994 model for $14000.

I know the new ones have gone up drastically in prices now with steel increases, but that has been tempered with lowering water tables and people abandoning irrigation in places around here.
