Which Injector Pump is Better for a Repower Cummins 6BT

I've decided to repower my White 2-135 with a Cummins 6BT since the Herc is worn out and the Cummins will save me 1-1.5 gallon/hour. It will most likely be one out of Ram unless I luck out and find an industrial engine for cheap. So, I have the option to buy a 12 valve engine with either the P-pump or the VE-44. Does it make any difference which I choose? I figure I'll be running about 160ish hp at the flywheel.

By all means go with the P. I was pump shopping last summer. The are a high demand item to retro fit with when the VE44's go bad. Local diesel shop cant keep them in. The inline pumps last twice as long and cost half as much to fix.

The VE pumps are fine as far as rotary pumps go. But - an in-line pump is always more durable - it does a lot less work - and has no distributor section to worry about. Most failures in rotary pumps are in the distributors (head & rotors).

A six cylinder engine at 2000 RPM - has its cylinders fire - in total - 6000 times in one minute.

If you have a rotary pump, like the VE, its plungers must fire 6000 charges of fuel in a minute.

If you have an in-line pump, you actually have six separate pumps - and each pump only has to fire 1000 times in the same minute.
