well 2 weeks ago i was havin; problems with what seemed everything. first the 4010 broke down and wouldn't start. that was saturday. then on sunday i was plowin' with the 970 case then the wirein' went all bazurk on me all cuz of the wires left over from when there was a light plug on it, that shorted out and fried part of the wiring harness. well then on monday i was done plowin' one field so i decided to go combine a while and pick up where my friend left off. well the combine overheated then i found out that the radiator was shot. well ok...jerk the radiator off and take it in to get fixed. so in the mean time i started plowing another field and the 4020 broke down. the 4010 and 4020 both had a bad tank of fuel(water in fuel) and now both injector pupm shafts brok on them! in to the dealer they went and there goes another $800 A PIECE down the drain. i told them not to get in too big of a hurry but to work on them IF they got bored :) well that was what seemed like the 4 days from h3!!. so i got the rad. back for the cobine today and got it in only to find out that we are supposed to get 4-6 in. of the white powder in the next few days! so i guess tomorrow i will be combining like mad until there is too much snow! anyone else have this much trouble in the last few weeks? oh well...tis' farmin' fer ya! sorry for the rant but i'm just venting

Besides. We use the right shades of Red & Green. Oliver & Massey.

Funny you should ask. I was gonna post this morning and ask if anybody wanted to buy a farm in warm sunny mid Michigan? If it ain't something broke,it's this never ending fridgid wind making it darned near unbearable to be out there working. What's been happening with you sounds like what happened to me a few summers ago though. I was cutting hay with the 1850 and spun a rod bearing. Finished what I was cutting with the 1550. I had to grind feed,so I hooked the 1600 on to the grinder and broke a piston in it. Two engines in one day! Now that's depressing.

Things will break down no matter what your maintenance schedule is... I feel that I am very particular on routine maintenance and preventative maintenance, but things still break down at times when you need them most.

As for the fuel issue - I would be talking to my fuel supplier about sharing the bill for the repairs!

Dairy Farmer: I feel your pain. I grew up on a dairy farm. My brother is still on the farm and I help out all I can.

What city are you near?

We've had a streak of flat tires lately, started after getting the main chunk of harvesting done.

Our 165 got a flat on the front, and then both tires on the field cultivator. Got the tire back for the 165 and then the other side went flat. I put a new tire on our plow this year, and it went flat 5-10 miles from home and I was done plowing the 1 acre I went out there to plow.
Last week a tire on the manure spreader blew out.

Had spares to put on most, atleast till the regular tires were fixed.

Aloha, I have to agree with mike. Many a times I let things go but I was lucky and nothing happened before I attended it. Like the old saying goes "A stitch in time, saves nine" is so true.

Seems like all your problems boil down to lack of maintenance.

How do you maintain sealed berings? And cast parts that just shatter to pieces? I had 4 different bearings go bad on one piece of equipment. It was old, but when they go, they go fast. And the cast bracket for the measuring arm on the baler just broke into about six pieces while baling. Some times parts just fail due to age or poor quality, not maintenance.

If bad fuel falls under lack of maintnance, I still can't say I'd agree with you. Things happen and it don't matter how good you maintain things, eventually they will go down. Ussually things always happen at once too.

the rpoblem with the fuel was that my bulk barrel was empty so i took my 30 gal. transfer barrel into town and filled it up an it hadn't been used in a month or so. i think it had condensation in it when i filled it up. belive me i'm good about my maintence. everything gets greased everytime i use it and i change fluids regularly. it was just that i wanted to get a lot done but the lord didn't want me to over work i htink!
oh well. no one ever said farmin' was easy!

I know what you mean, though I cant say its been quite that bad here. Had to put a computer on my truck this summer, then put a front axle in it, and now a head and a set of injectors. Didnt even get core credit out of my old head. To beat all, its a 2001 Dodge with a Cummins and only 155000 miles. Had to put 6 tires and two rims on my other truck. Everything else is holding together for right now. Turned the bulls out today, got to pick up 33 rolls of hay I bought and deliver 8 I sold. Be nice to get the truck back. Oh yeah, the front axle I replaced is seeping again.

Havent had too much else go wrong yet, other than miles of fence to fix and knee surgery in a month.
