I want to use some kind of sealer on the manifold
of my tractor when I install a gasket. I am especially concerned about sealing the intake manifold. What do you guys suggest?

I was told to not use silicone cause it wouldn"t hold up around gas. Will that black permatex work ok?

You are right, silicone and gas don"t mix.

Others are right, if you have perfectly clean mating surfaces and a new gasket then you don"t need anything.

If you want a dressing to help things come apart easier later and to make darn sure you have a good seal try "gasganich" or permatex aviation form-a-gasket (available at NAPA etc). They latter is a brown tar like substance that only needs a small application (read- a little goes a long way)

Well if you feel you just plain need to use something the only thing I would use is copper coat, but thats because most manifolds are both intake and exhaust so heat is a factor

Aloha, I had good results with Hi-Tac made by Permatex. I use the spray can for large areas but it is also available in a can with a brush.

That is what the gasket is for!! Unless you have a faulty manifold just the gasket is perfectly adequate. If there is a fault, fix it properly. gasket goo is not really the right way to deal with warped surfaces in this application.
