After being on the market for about 2 and a half months, my farmall H finally sold. I got $2200 hundred for it, which I didnt think was too bad. The guy that bought it is driving it home 60 miles away. I offered to haul it for him, but he seemed to really want it home tonight. He left at about five, so I am going to call him around nine to make sure he made it home okay. 60 miles sure seems to be a long ways to go on a H. Well, it would be a long ways to go on any tractor.

In 1952 my Dad put the homemade wood saw on the front of his H, hithced teh 1 row (side elevator) corn picker behind it, and a wagon loaded with picker elevator, plow, cultivator, disk, corn planter as well as their small amount of furniture on it and headed through the Mo. Hills form near Owensvile to Potosi Mo (about 45 miles), with Mom and I (4 years old) following in the Model T. due to the load and the hills , most of the trip was made in 4th gear.
didn't quite make it all the way in one day.

No I didnt. His name was Dustin. I did see that post however. At about nine oclock he called me and told me everything went fine. I think it is just ironic that someone put a post in like that. The guy I sold it to said everything still worked. no problems

I did a 70 mile tractor drive last July on a JD A with a steel seat at half throttle. Took most of day that way. So 60 miles on a H at full throttle shouldn't too bad. I would worry more about running out of light and being seen by traffic.

What is the top speed of the tractor? He's going to have a bad case of monkey butt after sitting on the seat for that long. That was a pretty good offer to take it home for him. Dave

A farmall H will do about 17-18 mph. I know because my ford 9n will do about 17 with the sherman overdrive and I followed my dad home from another farm one day and I couldn't quite keep up with his H.

you won't hate school if you go to a tech school like i did for AG- Mechanics. nuthing better that wrenching on tractors all day. beats the hell outta book work! i fixed quite a few tractor for neighbors and even found the time to make myself a pulling tractor (IH 1066 was always my dream puller!) but that is now since used frequently on the farm for biger jobs. didn't put that much money in her. maybe gave it 50 more HP but it was worth it now that i put it to work. don't hate school. if you hate school, then you stop trying, if you stop trying, then you fail and end up looking dumber then you accualy are. i never hated HS but then again i had lotsa shop classes. they still reflect on me too!.
just my 2 cents

I am 37, been missing school since I was 19. Enjoy it, learn all you can, share your knowledge with others, before you know it you'll wish you were back in school.

The only parts of high school I miss are the shop classes and being on the wrestling team.

Other than that, I haven't looked back and I'm on my way to making a very good career as a CNC machinist.

In high school I loaded my schedual with as many metal and automotive classes as I could. I fixed up my car and truck, and did lots of farm repairs. Most of them are still holding up too.

My senior year I was in the Coop program (work release type deal), where I landed my first job in a machine shop. Just happened to walk past the teacher's office maybe 3 minutes after he got off the phone with the guy who would be my boss.

Been in the trade for over 5 years now, got my degree last May. Tech school was ok, but towards the end I just wanted it to be over with. I was sick of going to school.

Dave, I'm 43 I haven't missed school since the day I graduated. In fact that same old claustrophobic feeling comes back just from walking my 5 year old to her kindergarten classroom, can't wait to get out of that building every morning. They kept telling me high school was going to be the best time of my life, if that were true I would be one miserable guy right now. Just my opinion. Mike
