After pulling the headache rack and scraping paint all day I went into town and bought 8 pieces of lumber and 2 gallons of paint. Over $240!

The whole darned box didn't sell new for much more than that. :>(

This common practice of public rape is starting to get on my nerves just a little. :>(

My wife says I am starting to sound like a broken record. How much to repair the shed? (250 bucks), how much to build a cold frame? (250 bucks), brakes are going on the care? (250 bucks).
You just proved my theory that most things you want to do around the place set you back about the same amount. Gonna be cold tonight, think I will kick up the heat a degree or two (250 bucks).

Price of plywood and paint probably similar everywhere. Local Home Depot had 2in x 12in by 20 ft yellow pine with some knots for $18.31. Clear,no knots, 3/4 inch thick boards were about $6.00 per board foot.

Allan, I don't care what they say this country is getting in a Hell of a shape. I say bring on a big depression and put these folks back down on earth with me. I can make it.

The bottom of my old manure spreader finally gave up the ghost. Decided to replace with plywood. Darn thing was 8 feet 8 inches long, so had to get one sheet of 4 X 10, 3/4 inch A/C exterior plywood. 75 Bucks! I just about produced the first load for that spreader, right on the spot!

Well,if it's any consolation to you,the left beater stopped working on my Meyer V-Max spreader. The splines are stripped off the shaft and out of the inside of the beater. Called to order the parts this morning. $545 plus shipping. Seems like a lot to spend to haul out something that's gonna decompose anyway.

And don't over look that next year SS will increase 2.5 percent, the lowest increase in several years. Where do they come up with that? ...things look more like 25 percent to me.

You're not supposed to buy the Ralph Lauren paint for outside, it goes inside where Mrs. can see and appreciate it.
I just bought "a few boards" to help out my son and his Homecoming float. Hah, kiss Mr. Ben Franklin goodbye, and I live 10 miles from where they mill the stuff.

Gee Allan, what size and type of lumber was that? I don't think it would be that much here even at one of the big box stores. I know lumber is scarce out there in the desert, but that's too high.

The paint was $26 a gallon (and, I'll probably need another couple of gallons for it's all done).

Bought 4 sheets of 3/8" plywood to line the floor, 3 16' 2X6s to build sideboards and had to have one 1X6 8' tongue and groove to replace that headache rack mounting board.

They don't stock tongue and groove anymore, so he planned down a 2X6 down to an inch for me.

Just plain seemed like I was gettin' taken to the cleaners. :>)

Doesn't really sound too terribly out of line. That plywood is sky-high anymore, and you had to buy a 2x6 T+G and have it planed? That T+G gets way up there too. I know it does'nt make it any less painful, though. Try buying clear pine 1x... Oh, and hey, you spend $80 on a gallon of red paint ; )

Bought a 1 1/8 diameter hex shaft 72" long for my corn head. Had threads cut on one end.

Cost $261 dollars.

Had one made at the weld shop last year for $61.

That included the lathe work to cut the threads.

Would have been 1 1/2 day wait at the shop so I bought the IH one. But I was running again 2 hours later.
