I have a 2500 chev crew cab with 350. I want to know what muffler or glass pack to use? It has 2 pipes going into one. Stock ex. pipes. I want it to get loud and deep no crackling or rapping/popping when excellerating. Does a straight pipe hurt on power and mpg. What are some good brands and models?

Keep the catalytic converter. Think they are guaranteed 10 yrs. Get rid of muffler and go. Not very loud on single exhaust. Duals might be too much. Done this about 10 different cars or trucks.

I have a '98 k1500 ext cab short box, 350, auto. The stock muffler came apart inside and a OEM from GM is outrageous. Like you I didn't want the snap, crackle, pop of your typical glass pack. So I took the truck to a local muffler shop that also done LOTS of custom work and asked him what he could do. He ran the truck up on the hoist and said that if it was his he would put an "X" pipe in. He cut the old exhaust off about 4" back from the converters. Yes, mine has 2 converters side by side. Then he built an "X" out of 2-1/4" pipe and put it in place. Then came the tail pipes out behind the tires. NO mufflers! The whole thing cost me $175.00. I really like it, has a nice rumble to it until you put your foot in it, then it will bark pretty loud. There is a noticeable increase in power and I gained 2 mpg. If you want I can email you a picture of the "X". My email is open

Flowmaster is pricy but works well.

Do a web search on "cat back exhaust systems". You'll get a ton of hits. They sound sweet not obnoxious. Straight pipe is nothing but noise and in my opinion - not good for the truck.
