Well, my New Holland TZ25 and I were out tilling away at the fall garden I'm gonna start, when all of a sudden the engine really slowed down, then stopped. flicked off PTO,, started right up, flicked it on, it died. What do you think could be wrong with it? Runs fine till I turn on the PTO. Thanks alot!!

Doesn't the tiller have a slip clutch or shear bolt? Maybe your tractor doesn't have enough HP to slip/shear it, but make sure it will protect the machine(s) just in case. Slip clutches tend to get stuck if you don't back off the tension and clean the surfaces once a year.

Lanse, maybe you need to pull the head off of the tractor. That seems to be the fix for mowers... Just kidding, please do not pull the head..

Now you know what to look for if it ever happens again. My mother always said that experience was a dear teacher. You remember things you learn the hard way.

Have you really been looking for something that was in your hand? I thought maybe I was the only one to do that. Or was this a trick to get someone to confess?

Could be a safety switch going bad also. Not sure if it has a PTO safety or not but I know some of the newer stuff have them and if you stand up with the PTO engaged they can be set up to kill the engine

Check to see if those 8th grade textbooks are pluggin' it up. They're way heavier than the ones I had in the 60's....

Wrapped up a piece of clothesline or fence wire in the tiller.

Sounds like you plugged up the tiller. Did you pick up some wire or something?? Another thing to check is that the gear box has plenty of grease and is not binding.
