Has any one out there used a pecan tree for fire wood. I just cut a vary large Pecan tree, and have a lot of wood. How does it burn? Thanks for any info. Stan

37 chief,Here in Central Texas, We have lots of Pecan trees. It is my favorite BBQ wood, mixed 50/50 with Oak.
Useing it for just regular ol fireplace wood is just a waste! But it will work just fine, it has a nice smell, IMO. It is concidered a "Hard wood". You may be connfuseing it with Hackberry, Now this is a WORTHLESS wood, it barely makes bon-fire wood, Not used under any circumstances for cooking. Very watery, when a limb breaks off and falls to the ground it is all ready rotten!
But back to you question, it will work just fine, in your fireplace. Hope this helps.
Later,
John A.

I don't have any btu figures, but it seemed to me it didn't get nearly as hot as oak, plus it spit sparks every time I messed with it. Probably the worst thing is that every time I went outside, it smelled like a barbecue joint, so I was always hungry.

My cousin uses it in his smoker. Has won several times in the shade tree class.

Seems like it would be worth far more as lumber if there"s any large chunks left!

I didn't even think of that. What do they use pecan wood for? Stan

It rots quickly in the weather. Store it in the dry.

Burns pretty good. Check this site for other woods:

Should have looked first - anyway - pecan is one of the hickories so is close to them.

Some people like to use it to smoke meat as well. I have tasted beef that was smoked with it and it had a good flavor.

It burns very well, it is a very hot fire similar to hickory.
