would it bother/hurt a gas engine to run with a 160 deg thermostat instead of the 180/190 degree unit? thanks.

If it's a newer engine with electronic sensors,I wouldn't. It has to run at a certain temp for all the sensors to work right.

Stat doesn't limit max temp. It controls the lowest operating temp. Many fall into the trap of thinking. "Boil over bad = Too Hot.... So colder is better..." Um, no it not. Run a 195F and have the engine burn cleaner & last longer.

Very common for people to use a lower thermostat, but the engine will burn cleaner and last longer at the proper temp. Your call. Tom
