I have decided to pull the head on my snapper, and see what $h!^ I can remove. Its got to be pretty bad in there.

When it comes to re-attatching the head, I have no torque wrench. How tight should I make it? As tight as I can?

Some torque wrenches are fairly inexpensive or you could rent one. Guessing doesn't cut it on an engine. You'll need all new gaskets and like was said if it's aluminum there's a good chance it could warp and be junk. My sister had a Honda car with higher miles with a warped head that couldn't be fixed for any kind of reasonable cost. Dave

Unless there is a problem, that you feel the head needs to come off, I would leave it be.. Aluminum heads and blocks are easy to warp, strip, etc... My Motto: "If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it"

no dont make it as tight as you can inless you want to strip out the bolts & have something else to fix.... my guess on small eng head would be 15 ft. lbs at most ? snug them up evenly & give them a good turn use your judgment ... or go borrow a torq wrench from local shop( if hes like me he will tell you hell no but...) i dont loan out my snap on tools as they either dont come back or dont come back same as they left. anyway gl
