I just read on the Cub Cadet website that Yanmar diesels are going to be put in the compact tractors. Is the Yanmar diesel also going to be in the compact Deere's too?

Deere is in China in reply to Midwest redneck, 07-15-2007 16:30:48
Seems I read that Deere has a joint venture with the largest Chinese tractor Company.

Bengya or some name like that. Deere wants to get into the Chinese market.

Only one thing wrong with Yanmar and Cub Cadet conducting their joint venture: Cub Cadet is still a brand owned by MTD. That makes it considerably less appealing to me at this point.

Yanmar has supplied John Deere for years (decades) under contract, everything from engines to whole tractors. Currently if its a compact John Deere without a turbo its a Yanmar engine and probably a Yanmar tractor (with John Deere's paint and emblems. John Deere does not own Yanmar.

Previous to this Mitsubishi had been the primary supplier of small desiels for Cub Cadets

John Deere already has been using them. Got an '85 John Deere 1050 with a Yanmar 3 cyl. turbo diesel. Doug N

Oh. That I didn't know. I just kind of lost a little respect for it now.

Do you have a pic of it, I'd like to see it.

I thought JD owns Yanmar too. If they don't, they do own most of the shares. Yanmar engines are good engines and are used in other machines besides JD. Just because Cub Cadet will be using them doesn't mean JD will stop selling Yanmar powered tractors. Any engine maker would be stupid not to supply to other makes. It's all about making money and that's what every business is in business for. Imagine how many billions Cat or Honda would lose if they were the exclusive users of their engines. Dave

My take on this is Yanmar will no longer supply J.D. with tractors, is now under contract with Cub Cadet, and may...may start selling their own line in the U.S. again Mike

50hp an under compact UT JD's have been made by Yanmar for almost 20 years. The 70 series.. 770, 870, 970 UT's from the late 80's were all Yanmar.

Yep ! Deere bought out Yanmar quite some time ago and most of the smaller Deeres are basically Yanmar with a JD name. Best of luck, Jim B.

Don't think Deere 'bought out' Yanmar.Yanmar just had a contract to make tractors for Deere.Yanmar is a huge company in its own right. Also Yanmar will make the Cub cadets in a plant in Georgia USA
