farmal h main drive shaft removal help

Can anyone tell me if the main drive shaft assembly can be removed from the transmission without taking off the top of the transmission or the belt pully.THANKS for any help.

Nope. You have to open it up, and disconnect the clutch shaft. Taking the cover off is easy. Hardest part of the whole job is dealing with the liftall because it's heavy and awkward to handle.

On second thought... You can pull the drive gear out from the front but I doubt you could get it back onto the shaft without more trouble than it would be to lift the cover.

aint no harder reinstalling than taking it out if you take the pto unit off take a piece of wire or heavy string wraparound main shaft and while your under the tractor ease the drive shaft up in place wiggle the wire or rope up and down untill it falls place
